Unwanted plants – violets… help!

When we moved in to our current home, one garden bed was filled with violets growing prolifically and spreading fast. I foolishly moved some to a rockery area… and again they are spreading too rapidly.

Does anyone know a good way to get rid of them?

  1. @anna21 I don’t know of any sure-fire way of getting rid of them other than pulling them out by hand, but the reason they’ve done so well is probably due to the cool wet years we’ve had (our native violets have taken over all the shady parts of our front garden). A normal Canberra summer will probably be too much for violets. So if you pull them out and we get a normal summer you should have a nearly violet free rockery.

  2. @Ecoaction Ok, thanks for that! I’ll start digging!
