• Yes, it is good. You can also set the gadget to turn off after 1,2 or 3 hours too. After you turn off the TV it only takes a minute and all the standby lights go off. They say that standby lights use a lot of power.

    Yes, the bedroom gets the early morning sun in both winter and summer. It is lovely in winter as the sun comes right in but very, very hot in summer. The window faces 60 degrees east of north.

    Another challenge was to shade windows – the bedroom that gets the morning sun now has a blockout blind and it is amazing just how much heat it keeps out on the hot days.

    Had ACTEWAGL come yesterday and give us a great little doodad that turns off all those nasty standby lights on the TV and everything associated with it. Also replacing the last of our old globes with energy saving ones.

    My promise of eating local is a) growing our own vegetables – we have beans, pumpkin, tomatoes, zucchinis, carrots, parsnip, onions and garlic this summer; and b) sometimes go to the local Southside growers market and c) always checking where other supermarket food comes from and only buy Australian.
