• I always buy less than I think I need. I also get pretty creative when turning leftovers into new meals! As a last resort, I use my worm bin.

  • @ecoaction thanks for the tip. I did know about the need for cleanliness around the fruit trees. Sticky traps have not worked for me but this year I have tried a solar powered bug zapper which only goes on at […]

Looking forward to the Natural Garden Pest Control workshop. Hope to get some ideas for controlling codling moth. A little bit late for this year although my apples seem to be free of it so far.

Looking forward to the irrigation workshop this weekend. I would like to reduce the amount of water I use and also the amount of time I spend watering.

@Boobok our jostaberry is at least ten years old and survived the drought with no watering and no food. It is only about waist height but has a mass of fruit on it. I only prune out the old dead branches and it […]

  • We have had a live Christmas tree for many years now. It has turned into a Bonsai. I think its a spruce tree. We don’t keep it for too long indoors though.

  • Interesting idea with the bubble wrap, hope it works out!

This is the weekend for the tomatoes to go in the ground. Lets see if they survive. I shall keep a couple under cover in pots just in case. Time to divide my lemon grass also. I shall be replanting these in wicking pots so they don’t dry out.

@Tracey It is the beginning of the silly season and I was trying to get all the workshops I am going too in one sentence. I hope to learn a lot about solar, chooks and irrigation before Christmas.

@Tracey is this workshop part of the permaculture course. I would be very interested in the Hugelculture. I have tried to make a Hugelculture bed in next to my vegetable garden to trap water. I haven’t planted […]

Hi @ecoaction I put in blinds & window coverings at the start of winter. Luckily our house in north facing, and we’ve been able to keep the warmth in far better this year since I’ve done that. I’m definitely noticing a difference in the evenings, and haven;t used the heater at all for quite a while. Made a huge difference. Thanks for all the help :)

  • Has anyone grown yacon or know where to get it in Canberra? It sounds like a super food. It is related to sunflowers and Jerusalem artichoke. The tubers are sweet. They are used as a substitute for sugar and its […]

What a beautiful weekend for getting out into the garden. I shall be planting out my rocket and bak choi seedlings. Lots of weeding to do and a bit more mulching.

  • @Ecoaction our veggie garden is progressing. Peas and beans have sprouted and. I have flowers on my strawberries. Indoors my tomatoes, marigolds, basil, bok choy, zucchini, and rocket are all ready to plant out. […]

  • @Anna21 I have used them to make jam. Just like blackcurrents but much bigger. I think you could also use them in summer pudding if you mix them with other berries and a bit of sugar. They need to ripen on the […]

Had a lovely day yesterday at the wicking pot workshop. I didn’t realise that they were so simple to make. I shall be converting all my pots eventually.
Today I went to the national arboretum and listened to an irrigation talk. Looks like drippers are the way to go. What a treasure that place is. It will be spectacular in about 30 to 40 years…[Read more]
