I’ve found that having a range of brands has helped me stick with cloth. DD was in cloth since Day 3, & a range of brands have fit over time.

While GloBugs & Bambooty were best when she was newborn, itti bitti & Baby Beehinds are better now she’s 2mo. & she has a range of brands for a variety of reasons: Pikapu…[Read more]

    Hi all,

Has anyone else encountered this? My worms bred in the blanket I had to keep them warm over winter! Will the wool blend break down if I leave it in there & add veggies on top? It’s quite an old blanket (a Tumbleweed one for the Worm Cafe) & is starting to come apart… I don’t want to lose my worms, but I don’t want to leave it in…[Read more]

How’s this going for you? My mum prepares a weekly menu based on what is on sale & in season – it really helps cut down food waste. I’m not so organised, but I love having leftovers for lunch so we try not to […]

    • That is so organised. I try to do that when I go shopping, but don’t always succeed. Probably because I don’t plan it before I go.

    • I have a list which I print out on the computer each week. It has one of the supermarket layouts and aisle numbers. I write in what I need in the correct aisle number – this saves a huge amount of time. I get get around the shop in no time. I have a white board at home and write on it the things which I run out of during the week. That helps…[Read more]

  • @Joh What plants do you grow from cuttings? I’m only good with getting rosemary & mint to really take… But I haven’t really tried non-food plants.

    • @lucinda There are tngs of plants that can be propagated by cutitng.
Whiel I haven’ ried it with many fruit and veg, other than Rosemary and mint as you said, I believe that fig trees can be propagated by cutting. In the non-veg side of the garden, fuschia and succulants can be grown by just sitting cuttings in a glass of water for 4-8 weeks.…[Read more]

    • @lucinda I have tried propagating cuttings of geranium. You just cut a bit off. Let it dry for a couple of days and stick it in the ground. Irisis are also very easy. You divide up a clump of tubers and replant, Not to deep. Day lilies and agapanthus are also easy to propagate. Just divide and replant. I have also had success with native violets…[Read more]

In reply to: Wombat01 posted an update Just bought two draught stoppers for our extraction fans. Now I just have to convince my husband to get up in the ceiling cavity to fit them. View

Easy way to convince him – tell him you won’t need the heater on in the bathroom! That worked for me. ;-) It really made a difference – the ensuite is much warmer, & with the draught excluders on the ensuite door as well, our bedroom is also much warmer! :-)

Ooh, yummm… Love blueberries! We’re planning on getting berries for our front garden – once we’ve dug up the grass & mulched ready to go. That might be a while away… My parents’ blueberry bush produces so much fruit – they’re fantastic! & so much easier & better than store-bought ones. :-)

Last day of my challenge today. I managed to tick off 4 out of 5 challenges, but this doesn’t mean I’m finished! I need to continually work to buy less stuff – that’s the challenge I don’t think I succeeded in. And of course there are always things I can do to improve our vegie garden productivity and to improve our home energy use…

Does anyone want to swap plants? I have more than enough sage, oregano, thyme and mint, and heaps of coriander seeds too. Please message me if you want some, & especially if you have excess of something else that I don’t have!

    • Nice quote. Lets hope our friends and neighbours copy us and at least make some effort in reducing our carbon foot print. Just saw the news about the huge ice sheet that has broken off the glacier in Greenland. Its the size of Manhattan!!! Where are those greenhouse sceptics???
Probably have their heads under the sand.

    • @lucinda excellent quote. It would be nice to think the sceptics might follow some time soon!
